By: Hannah Oreskovich

With all of our recent weekends spent festing in Colorado, it’s been a minute since we dropped a six! Here’s our latest:

Today (Friday 08/12):

Hillary Susz at The No Name Bar in Boulder 10PM-Close

Hillary Susz, who we profiled here awhile back, plays The No Name Bar tonight. Originally from Spokane, WA, Susz is a Boulder transplant who describes herself as “operatic indie rock”. Just last month, Susz dropped a new single, “Pollution”, from her forthcoming record, The Heart Will Jump (With Nowhere to Fall). Check it out below and get behind the big brown door tonight if you like what yah hear!

Denver’s four-piece progressive funk and jam band King Friday the 13th play Zio’s this evening. It’s the band’s first headlining gig at the bar, so they’ve promised “a couple big sets” and “to get pretty weird with it”. Sounds like a start to the weekend, alright. Get details here.

Tomorrow (Saturday 08/13):

Austin’s rock trio The Blind Pets headline the Hi-Dive tomorrow night with a sweet lineup of Denver acts opening their show. Dirty Few and Bad Licks, two standouts we featured in our UMS coverage, are both on the bill. Blues garage rock four-piece Fast Eddy will play as well. Sweet gig; $10. Get tickets here.

Denver’s mainstay psych rock outfit Eldren play Denver’s Marquis tonight, with lush and dreamy indie group Sunboy, and the rowdy rock’n’roll band Quiet Oaks. At our last Sunboy show, the band released a ton of smiling mylar happy-face balloons into the crowd that were then seen tied to people’s festival gear throughout The UMS. So here’s a show guaranteed to make you smile. See you there! Tickets here.

Multi-instrumentalist and indie folk musician Ben Barron will open up the LG stage tomorrow night. He’ll be bangin’ on the banjo for some tunes, followed by the string trio Jam key JAM. Based in Boulder, members of JKJ include Nabin Shrestha (tabla), Bijay Shrestha (sitar), and Ajar Shrestha (guitar). We’re stoked for strings on strings on strings. Read more here.

All Weekend (08/12-08/14):

Boulder’s Hootenanny at Bankers Cabin in Gold Lake in Ward- Various Sets & Times

Speaking of festing, there’s a party going down in Boulder this weekend with a slew of great local acts on the bill. Conscious Alliance, an awesome nonprofit that you should read more about here, is throwing its 9th annual Hootenanny in Ward, CO. Ben Hanna, Danny Shafer, Gasoline Lollipops, and The Farmer Sisters are just a few of the talents that will be gracing the stage over the course of the weekend, and tickets are only $50 for the whole shebang! All donations and some ticket profits go toward the goal of providing 10k meals to those in need, so get out there and support great music for a great cause!

See yah ‘round Colorado.
