Boulder's madelife Hosting #NoDAPL Event This Thursday With Art, Music, & More

By: Hannah Oreskovich

Recently, we brought you a video by Boulder’s Silent Bear featuring a song he wrote in protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Shortly after its release, we heard about an event happening at Boulder’s madelife this Thursday, October 20th benefiting Sacred Stone Camp. Madelife, a local company focused on accelerating the careers of creatives, has joined forces with 350 Colorado for a live art and music event. The night will showcase the work of several local artists including Melanie Yazzie, Madeline Tonzi, Regan Rosburg, Rod Velarde, Taylor Elyse Compton, and more. There will be an art auction as well, and all proceeds will go toward providing Sacred Stone Camp with supplies for the upcoming winter.

Said madelife’s Gabrielle Haag, “I think a lot of the Native American communities right now are looking for a way to express how they’re feeling. There have been protests, like in Denver, but this will be a night of art, of music, of culture, of speakers.”

Music at Thursday’s event will include performances by Boulder’s Banshee Tree, Low Viscosity, and, of course, Silent Bear. There will be live painting and a raffle for special prizes as well.

Said Gabrielle, “Once we put the word out about what we were doing, a lot of local businesses jumped on board, including Conscious Coffee, Finkel & Garf, and Innisfree Poetry. They will be at the event and we will have cool things to give away!”

Speakers at the event will include individuals from Sacred Stone Camp, a member from the Four Winds Tribal Council who will discuss the legislative details of the pipeline, and Sky Roosevelt Morris of the American Indian Movement of Colorado.

“I would really encourage everybody to come out to this event. It’s gonna be wicked good! And even if you can’t make it to the event, you can donate on our website. It’s give what you can.” Gabrielle smiled.
