An Update with Homevibe: Tall Heights Tonight + Ryan Montbleau for Valentine's Day

By: Hannah Oreskovich

Homevibe has a few shows on the horizon.

Last month, we had the pleasure of rocking out at three of Homevibe’s local shows- Willy Porter + Dave Tamkin, John Craigie + Reed Foehl, and the Homevibe for the Holidays Concert. As we settle into the new year, we’re excited to bring you info on some more of their gigs! Let us tell you a bit about what's coming up:

Tall Heights with Special Guests Poet’s Row & Paul Kimbiris - This Friday 01/29

Homevibe is going to make you feel right at home once again this Friday at The Walnut Room in Denver. Headliner Tall Heights are a harmony-heavy indie duo from Boston who NPR has called both “intimate and arresting”. And they would know- members Tim Harrington (vocals/guitar) and Paul Wright (vocals/cello) did a live taping with NPR’s World Cafe and performed on NPR’s Mountain Stage program. Tall Heights also had chart success last year, hitting Billboard’s “Next Big Sound” and iTunes Apple Music “Best of 2015”. After dropping their EP Holding On, Holding Out in October of 2015, Tall Heights have been touring stateside. Their travels continue through April, and while they’ve got a few Colorado gigs, Friday’s show is the closest to Boulder/Denver, it has two awesome guests on board (which we’ll get to in just a sec), and it’s a Homevibe show! So you know it’s going to be cozy and downright awesome. Which brings us to the other acts on Friday’s lineup: Poet’s Row is a Denver-based folk four-piece and Paul Kimbiris is one of Boulder’s most noteworthy singer songwriters. You might remember our album review of his full-length release, Dark Side of Pearl, or the fact that he played in our Fall Showcase with his band BLVD. This Homevibe bill is bringing a lot of talent to the stage, and two local openers is an awesome thing to see! So get tickets for this Homevibe event while you still can- just click here.

PS: Tall Heights just premiered their music video for their song "Spirit Cold" yesterday on PASTE- watch that here

Valentine’s Dinner & Concert with Ryan Montbleau - Sunday 02/14

Looking to impress someone special for Valentine’s Day this year? Then Homevibe’s got you covered! They’ve got a three course dinner by Per La Gente (and champagne if you so choose) + a solo performance by Ryan Montbleau at The Riverside in Boulder. Touring since the early 2000s, as a both a solo act and with his band, Montbleau has most recently been on the road for his 2015 solo release, Growing Light. His current performance set has been called “bold and barrier breaking, organically blending rock, funk, soul, folk, and psychedelia to create a sonic kaleidoscope… The night will kick off at 5PM with dinner; show starts at 8PM. We’ll bring you more coverage as VDay approaches, but in the meantime, get your tickets for the dinner and a show right here.

Stay tuned for more events and updates from us! We hope to see you soon.

We recently checked out Studio 700 for a feature we’ll be bringing you in January, and we gotta say, it’s a pretty dang sweet spot. Formerly an insulated recording room, the guys at Studio 700 have worked hard to turn the place into an awesome performance space with cool lighting and great sound. Tonight, for only $5, you can check it out and wear your best Christmas sweater while Ben Hanna and Hunter Stone croon your ears off with their bands. Go go go!

Homevibe for the Holidays: John Craigie This Saturday!

By: Hannah Oreskovich

We're featuring all the bands on Homevibe's Holiday Show bill this week.

There are still a few tickets available for the party we’re throwing with Homevibe Presents at The Walnut Room in Denver and you can get ‘em here. We’ve got one more artist for you peeps! It’s time for John CraIgIe. Let’s go:

San Francisco-bred John Craigie.

San Francisco-bred John Craigie.

For the past decade, John Craigie has traveled the world performing his folk music as a “modern-day troubador.” He’s played a number of incredible festivals (including Burning Man), has shared a stage with acts like Shook Twins and Trampled by Turtles, and has released nine studio albums. His humor has been compared to Mitch Hedberg and his live performance to that of Arlo Guthrie. He’s currently on tour for his 2015 release of Working On My Farewell and Saturday he’s coming to you Denver! Here’s our chat with John:

So John- it seems like you’re on the road more than you’re off of it. Tell us about that.

I am currently on tour. I’m hitting the last few towns on my album release tour that started back in March and I’ll be wrapping things up in Portland on 12/16 at Mississippi Studios. I’ll be recording that show for an upcoming live album that I’m hoping to drop in February. Always touring.

That’s awesome! So we know you’ve worked with Homevibe before. What do you enjoy most about their shows?

I love the spirit they bring to the evening. They turn the stage into a cozy living room. It definitely adds to my storytelling vibe and an overall comfortable show.

Craigie brainstorming his ski costume for Saturday.

Craigie brainstorming his ski costume for Saturday.

Doing anything sweet for the ski theme?

This is actually the first I’m hearing of it but no surprises there. I’m always the last to know. I suppose I can muster something up. I’m not very good in the snow- born and raised in Southern California- I just fall on my face in snow. Maybe I should wear some elbow pads and a helmet…

We know someone who wants to do a couples costume with you. But- moving on. Do you have a favorite holiday song?

The one I hear the least during the season.

Fair enough John, fair enough. What are you most looking forward to about Saturday’s show?

I played [the holiday show] last year and I loved the way Homevibe made everything flow together. I can only imagine this one will be twice as good. See ya there!

Yes you will. And we better see you there too! Get your tickets here. And join the Facebook event here.

Homevibe for the Holidays: Taylor Carson This Saturday!

By: Hannah Oreskovich

We're featuring all the bands on Homevibe's Holiday Show bill this week.

Happy Hump Day! We’re just FOUR days away from our holiday show with Homevibe Presents and we’re getting pretty stoked. The magic happens Saturday at The Walnut Room in Denver and you can still get tickets here. We’ve been bringing you exclusive content on all of the artists involved in the show every day this week, so let’s get to it! Today we’ve got Taylor Carson in the hotseat. Read on:

Taylor Carson.

Taylor Carson.

Virginia-based Taylor Carson first rose to fame in 2010 with the release of his record Defending the Name. The album won an independent music award, put him on stage with artists like Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers and Eric Hutchinson, and launched him into the life of a touring musician. When it comes to sound and influences, “Carson hails from the land of the Dave Matthews Band, Virginia Coalition, and O.A.R. [and] while he built his musical chops on the shoulders of these acoustic rock superstars, his lyrical inspiration comes from timeless wordsmiths like Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, and Martin Sexton.” Sweet.

So Taylor! It’s rumored that Saturday’s show is ski-wear themed. We’re excited. You’re excited. Any plans for a ridiculously awesome ski ensemble that you can share with us?

I plan on heli-skiing through the roof of The Walnut Room and landing perfectly behind the mic.

We like your style. Tell us what you’re currently working on.

I have a new record called Go Amaze coming out in early 2016. My writing is maturing with me, and that is satisfying. I am a lot more grounded at 33 than I ever dreamed I would be. We are also back in the studio [already] making another record. For me, writing is the most enjoyable part of being a musician.

Taylor and Abe.

Taylor and Abe.

Sounds like you’ve been in the studio a lot- awesome! If you had to record one holiday song, which one would you choose?

I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” It’s a perfect song. Did you know that a large number of Christmas songs are written by people who celebrate Chanukah? Fun fact.

Haha good to know! So what are you most looking forward to about Saturday’s show?

The pizza at The Walnut Room is superb.

Hell yes. Pizza on pizza. Can’t wait.

Come grab a slice with Taylor Carson this Saturday. Get your tickets here. And join the Facebook event here.

Watch a T.C. vid in anticipation for the show:

Homevibe for the Holidays: Augustus This Saturday!

By: Hannah Oreskovich

We're featuring all the bands on Homevibe's Holiday Show bill this week.

Boulder's Augustus.

Boulder's Augustus.

Hey Beaters- like we mentioned yesterday, we’re partnered with Homevibe Presents for their 9th Annual Homevibe Holiday Concert this Saturday 12/12 at The Walnut Room in Denver! As promised, we will be bringing you content on each of the performers for Saturday’s lineup, so let’s get to it! Here’s our blurb on Augustus:

Augustus is a Boulder-based trio “harvested from the most significant American musical movements- folk, blues, and jazz” consisting of Colin Kelly (vocals/guitar), Jim Herlihy (guitar/drums/banjo), and Jesse Wright (cello/bass). In the past year, Augustus has played to a sold-out Fox Theatre, released their EP Into Frames, which was critically acclaimed as “Colorado’s strongest psych-rock/mashup album of 2015” by Colorado Music Buzz, and traveled the state performing shows. We’ve featured their work before, which you can check out here and here. But it was time for a catchup! Here’s our chat:

So guys- first things first! What have you been up to as of late?

Well we recently upgraded some home studio gear and so we’re in the process of recording a new round of demos. We plan to tweak those and re-record them a few times until we like them. Once we do, we will head back up to Madhouse Studio in Leadville to record another EP. And as far as shows next year, we’re making a couple of trips to Summit County for some performances.

Augustus at Their fox theatre show.

Augustus at Their fox theatre show.

Sounds like a sweet start to the New Year. Let’s talk Saturday! Are you guys going to do anything fun with the ski-theme?

Colin has talked about bringing his shot ski. . .

Shots with the band? I think we’re up for that! So in the spirit of the holiday party, we’re asking everyone on the lineup: What’s your favorite holiday song?

Jim won’t stop pushing for us to cover a Christmas song. He really likes Vince Guaraldi’s instrumental “Christmas Time is Here”.

With Jesse’s strannng power, that could be pretty fun! Anything else you’re pumped about for the show Saturday?

The sound in The Walnut Room is amazing, and this will be our first time playing with all of the other artists on the bill. We’re really looking forward to hearing each of them.

So there you have it! Come party with Augustus this Saturday! Get your tickets here. And join the Facebook event here.

Homevibe for the Holidays: Danielle Ate The Sandwich This Saturday!

By: Hannah Oreskovich

We're featuring all the bands on Homevibe's Holiday Show bill this week.

Heyo Boulder! Happy Music Monday! Today, we’re excited to announce we’re partnering with Homevibe Presents for their 9th Annual Homevibe Holiday Concert this Saturday 12/12 at The Walnut Room in Denver. (PS: It's ski-themed, so break out your best gear!) This week, we’ll be bringing you content every day on different artists involved in the show!

Danielle Ate the Sandwich.

Danielle Ate the Sandwich.

First up: Danielle Ate the Sandwich. Danielle is a Colorado-based indie-folk singer/songwriter who is probably best known for her YouTube fame. Danielle started her musical career playing open-mics in Fort Collins and then began making quirky YouTube videos, which went VIRAL. She now has over 40k subscribers, has toured nationally with her music, and recently scored the soundtrack to the HBO documentary “Packed in a Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Wilkinson.” Her sound has been described by Westword as, “cripplingly enchanting with lyrics telling the story of a generation coming of age in an age of uncertainty.” We can dig.

Recently, we chatted with Danielle about the upcoming Homevibe Holiday Concert. Check it out:

So Danielle, have you worked with Homevibe before?

I have worked with HomeVibe several times over the years [since] I’ve been playing music in the Denver scene. I think HomeVibe puts together great lineups with high quality artists. I really appreciate their attention to detail choosing the artists and decorating the stage. They create an atmosphere with lighting and props which makes the concert feel like a cozy, special event. The HomeVibe shows feel cared for and carefully placed.

We’re definitely excited for that. And since the show is holiday-themed, we have to ask. What’s your favorite holiday song?

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” performed by Frank Sinatra. I love Christmas music!

Classic choice. So what have you been up to recently?

I spent a lot of the spring and summer of 2015 touring my newest album, The Drawing Back of Curtains, which was written as the soundtrack to the aforementioned HBO documentary. Now that it’s the winter, I stay inside a bit more and have been finishing up songs for a new album to be released in 2016. The details are working themselves out, but I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and take a few leaps on my next project.

74eb0f9c-70d6-4ca4-95b9-bd37efdde7de.jpeg

Awesome! What are you most pumped about for Saturday’s show?

I’m very, very excited to hear and meet John Craigie. Aside from seeing and hearing his name for a while around the scene and from friends in the business, I am really into his songwriting style. The humor mixed with the heavy life lessons and wry, honest observations really pleases me. I like people who say a lot of words in their songs! Makes me feel good about saying so many in mine! Maybe he’ll do a couples ski costume with me!?!? Like hot chocolate and whipped cream!? Or I’ll be a lodge and he can be a mounted and stuffed bear? Perfect.

A mounted and stuffed bear. It’s reasons like these that we love Danielle Ate The Sandwich kids. Come watch her open up the party this Saturday! Get your tickets here. And join the Facebook event here.
