Initially formed in 2013, Hi-Fi Gentry has switched up their lineup a few times since inception, and currently consists of Andrew Kobil (guitar/lead vocals), Max Rutherford (lead guitar/vocals), David Beuerman (bass/vocals), Mark McKenna (keys/vocals), and Derek Slate (drums). Together, the group played a tight set; Kobil and Rutherford occasionally switched off vocals and both played rocked it out on guitar. Beuerman and Slate help down a thumpin’ rhythm section, creating the natural builds within many of the group’s tracks. And McKenna sprinkled in the sweetness on keys; his animated playing was super entertaining.
The guys packed the room for a high-energy set, and their excitement for the new release was palpable. Most of the audience was dancing, especially on my personal favorite, “Maria”. One fan was even plastered in Hi-Fi Gentry stickers belting out the words in the front row with the band. Needless to say, HFG brought the party and it was a righteous, rockin’ time.
